song of the day: words (between the lines of age) by neil young

not all SOTD entries have to be shiny and new.

in fact, this morning, while walking to work, neil young’s “harvest” album kicked in. i found myself rocking in nostalgia to “words (between the lines of age),” a creaky-guitar gem of a track.

because we aim to offer you new music at small print, i decided to dig up a version of “words” from the recording sessions of “harvest.” this version is more sprawling and yet more tentative. it also features neil giving directions to the band as they go. notice something missing? that would be the backing vocals of stephen stills and graham nash.
